Introduction

Welcome to the research website of Professor Tarek Echekki

I have served as a faculty in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NC State since January of 2002.

At the Computational Combustion and Energy Sciences Lab at NC State, we carry out research on the development of novel modeling approaches in turbulent combustion. Such approaches include the development of data-based modeling frameworks starting from experimental data and high-fidelity numerical simulations and the development of multi-scale turbulent combustion models based on the coupling of coarse-grained large-eddy simulation (LES) with low-dimensional stochastic models.

For data-based modeling machine-learning approaches guided by the physics of combustion are developed. For experimental data, such approaches play an important role in identifying the low-dimensional manifolds associated with the combustion state-space.

We also are interested in developing strategies for chemistry acceleration, again by relying on machine learning tools to integrate chemistry on low-dimensional manifolds of the composition space.
